Theodore Haley, CFP®, AIF®

Ted is passionate about helping our clients achieve their goals, both financial and otherwise.

As President of Advanced Wealth Management, Ted and his wife Lindsey own the business and lead the firm in our mission of guiding clients towards making even better decisions with their money. A passion for helping the people we serve drives him, as does building a thriving team and fostering a work environment full of fun and curiosity.

A native Oregonian, Ted grew up in the Portland area. Ted’s parents Bob and Dorothy Haley founded Advanced Wealth Management and the “office” was housed in the downstairs of their house as he was growing up, so Ted truly grew up in and around financial planning. He studied at the University of Oregon, where he and Lindsey helped lead the Ducks racquetball team to two top-10 finishes in the U.S. National Collegiate Championships.  He graduated from the U of O magna cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa, and later went on to earn an Executive Certificate in Financial Planning from the Pamplin School of Business at the University of Portland.

After college and before starting with Advanced Wealth Management full time, Ted and Lindsey both lived in Spain, where he had received a grant from the Spanish government to teach English in a school in a small town in Andalucía while she earned her Master’s degree in Spanish language and literature in Madrid. Ted’s experience as an educator living abroad combined with his financial education gives him a unique world view, and his interest in teaching translates into a drive to educate our clients about what options might be best for them, and why.

Advancing the financial planning profession as a whole is very important to Ted, and he has served as President and Chair of the Board of Directors of the Financial Planning Association of Oregon and Southwest Washington, and he is a member of the Estate Planning Council of Portland.  Ted also serves on the Council on Examinations for the CFP® Board of Standards, which is the elite group of CFP® professionals that serve as the primary subject matter experts for the CFP® exam. They provide recommendations regarding the development, administration and scoring of the CFP® exam consistent with best practices in high stakes testing and certification organizations.

Giving back has always been a core value of Ted’s, and he is active in several local non-profit groups and associations. He serves on the Board of Directors of two local non-profits: Ukandu, an organization whose mission is to bring joy and hope to children and families impacted by childhood cancer, and HomePlate Youth Services, an organization that uplifts and empowers young people experiencing housing instability through community building, education, and access to services and resources in the community.

Outside of the office, Ted loves to explore the wilderness of the Pacific Northwest with his wife Lindsey, their son, and their dog.  He and his family also love to travel, and can frequently be found cheering on the local Portland Timbers and Portland Thorns soccer teams.

Ted has received various industry recognitions, and has most recently been named as one of the 2024 Best-In-State Wealth Advisors (1) by Forbes magazine. He is also 2023 recipient of the Five Star Wealth Manager award (2).  He has been quoted in many national news sources and industry media, including CNBC, InvestmentNewsMarketWatch, and U.S. News & World Report.
